Luxury Wardrobe LED System
Project Overview
Located in a private penthouse in Shenzhen, this luxury walk-in wardrobe was custom-built for a fashion-forward client who needed museum-quality lighting to display premium garments, leather goods and accessories. We designed and delivered a complete LED lighting system for 18 linear meters of custom cabinetry, combining architectural minimalism with intelligent presence-activated illumination.
Challenge
Two key challenges defined this project. First, heat dissipation (散热难题): enclosed wardrobe cabinets with zero ventilation could trap heat, risking LED degradation and damage to fine leather and fabrics. Second, color rendering (显色性难题): ordinary strips (CRI under 80) made navy suits look black and washed out rich textures — the client demanded true-to-life color for accurate outfit matching.
Design Solution
We deployed our 4mm ultra-slim COB LED strip (4mm极窄灯带), which fits invisibly into 6mm routed slots along shelf fronts and hanging-rod reveals. Each zone is wired to a motion + door-sensor system (感应系统): lights gently fade on when the wardrobe door opens and auto-off after 60 seconds, saving energy and adding a premium welcome moment.
Technical Implementation
- Color rendering: CRI Ra greater than or equal to 95 — 4000K neutral white for true-to-life fabric and leather colors.
- Power: DC24V constant voltage — 24V driver, 10W/m, 100W supply with 25% headroom.
- Dimming and sensing: 1-100% PWM dimming, integrated with PIR motion sensor and magnetic door switches, 60s auto-off.
- Heat management: aluminum channel acts as heat sink; junction temperature kept below 60 degrees C even in sealed compartments.
Products Used
- COB LED Strip Light 480 LEDs/m — 4mm Width, DC24V 4000K
- LED Power Supply Driver (100W, DC24V)
- Aluminum Channel — Recessed 6mm Type with heat-dissipating fins
- Frosted PC Cover
- PIR Motion Sensor and Magnetic Door Switch Kit
FAQ
Why do wardrobe LED strips overheat?
Enclosed spaces trap heat. Our COB strips run on aluminum channels that act as heat sinks, keeping junction temperatures below 60 degrees C even in sealed compartments.
What CRI do I need for a wardrobe?
We recommend CRI Ra greater than or equal to 95. High color rendering shows true fabric and leather colors, so navy, black and charcoal are easy to distinguish.
Can a 4mm strip fit my existing cabinet slots?
Yes — the 4mm strip fits 6mm routed slots or recessed aluminium channels with a 1mm tolerance, with no visible light source.
How does the sensor system work?
PIR motion sensors and magnetic door switches trigger a gentle 1-second fade-on when the door opens, and auto-off after 60 seconds.
What voltage is used?
DC24V constant voltage for safe, low-voltage installation with minimal voltage drop over long runs.
